Some people only feel complete when they hold the perfect drink in their hand. But finding it is often a challenge. Charles Hawtrey was lucky – he asked his trusted bartender for a cocktail that was just right for him.
Ada Coleman, one of the most legendary bartenders at London's Savoy Bar, then served him a drink made of gin, Italian vermouth, and herbal bitters, finished with orange zest. His response: "By Jove. That is the real hanky-panky!" – an expression of pure enthusiasm that gave this cocktail its name.
To this day, the Hanky Panky remains one of the great classics of bar culture. A complex, elegant drink served in a chilled cocktail glass and finished with orange zest for a perfect moment of indulgence.
